  Thallus thin, dispersed-verrucose to verruculose, whitish grey to yellowish grey, not or slightly pruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible or whitish grey. Apothecia sessile to slightly constricted at the base, 0.6–1.3 mm diam.; disc pale red-brown to grey-brown, bluish grey- to pale grey- or whitish grey-pruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin to thick, smooth, ±verrucose to crenulate. Cortex hyaline, gelatinous, inspersed with small crystals, 15–25 µm thick laterally and 20–55 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, without crystals, 10–15 µm thick. Epihymenium pale brown to yellowish brown, c. 10–15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals (chlarotera-type); pigmentation soluble in KOH. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal to broadly ellipsoidal, 11.5–14.5 × 6.0–7.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; containing chloroatranorin (major), zeorin (major), atranorin (minor), usnic acid (minor) and traces of unidentified terpenes.
     
  A corticolous lichen in temperate to semi-arid parts of southern Australia (W.A., S.A., N.S.W., A.C.T. and Vic.). Also in south-western North America, Mexico, South America, Asia and the South Island of New Zealand.
